A draft of the latest town council event committee minutes reveals information on the additional plans for Raunds regarding the celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee:
Thursday 2nd June – Coverage of the Trooping of the Colour (the Queen’s Birthday Parade) will be shown on the big screen at Saxon Hall where the Women’s Institute (WI) will serve tea and cake.
Thursday 2nd June – There will be a lighting of the Beacon at the Town Hall, with choirs performing
Friday 3rd June – The town council will possibly provide support to the churches with a Thanksgiving Service
Sunday 5th June – A Big Picnic Lunch event will be held at Bassfords Recreation ground, where a big screen will show coverage of Jubilee Pageant. The event would involve entertainment, attractions, food stalls, free strawberries and cream, popcorn and cake. Bunting will also be put up around the square and banners on the bandstand over the weekend.
The minutes also reveal that the Raunds Mayor’s Show is being considered to be moved to Saturday 10th September in order to coincide with Nene Valley Festival.
