Repeated Vandalism and Disrepair Results in Raunds Skate Park Being Removed

In a statement issued yesterday by Raunds Town Council, they have advised the public that the skatepark in Raunds has been authorised for complete removal.

A Town Council spokesman stated in a social media post:

This is because the existing structure has become unsafe and is beyond repair. The Council recognises that the park is very popular and well used by local residents and I am exploring options for replacement for Council to consider as soon as possible. I would urge members of the public to respect the notices prohibiting use of the equipment for safety reasons. Raunds Town Clerk

Earlier in the week the Town Council had also issued the following statement:

Raunds Skate Park in Amos Lawrence playing field is CLOSED and should not be entered. The equipment is not safe and the gates have been locked numerous times but padlocks are being cut off and people are entering and using the ramps. DO NOT enter the skate park or use any of the equipment as it is not safe and has been closed!

Vandalism has been a constant issue with the Amos Lawrence skate park. Back in 2019 we reported that the annual maintenance costs had been approximately £3,000 a year with the park needing to be closed on many occasions.
