    Probably same reason as why the paths are not gritted anymore. Where there is a blame there is a claim culture. By gritting if anyone slips and falls or has an acident then you are liable. But if it is left and something happens then you are not.

      I think that might be an issue for private individuals or businesses, although a government website says you would ‘probably’ not be held to account or sued. ‘Probably’ is a bit vague though. 🙁
      Not sure if such issues apply to councils though.

    More likely to be part of the cost cutting measures than fear of being sued. Gritting roads was mentioned alongside cutting Libraries as a way of saving money.

    I can’t see any reference to gritting of car parks on council web sites. I suspect it wouldn’t be done by public bodies, but be the responsibility of the owner – which might well be one or other of the councils anyway.
