Raunds Town Council Sorry To Hear About No Carnival

Following the announcement by the Raunds Carnival committee to cancel this years event, Raunds Town Council have said that they “Are very sorry to hear that there will be no carnival in 2017”.

There have been some comments made that the blame for the cancelling of the event has been with the Council. Raunds Town Council have made the following statement:

“It is unfair to lay the blame for this with the Town Council. Raunds Town Council were originally approached by the carnival committee in January 2017 asking for use of Amos Lawrence Playing Field on the 15th July 2017. At this stage the Town Council asked the carnival committee for some additional information before making a decision and asked to meet with the carnival committee to better understand the change in date. The response received was that this would not be necessary as the carnival was going to be held at an alternative venue.

In March 2017 it became apparent that the alternative venue was unfortunately not going to be viable and the carnival committee repeated their request for use of Amos Lawrence Playing Field. The Town Council considered the matter with final approval being given for the use of Amos Lawrence Playing Field in April 2017. During this time the Town Council did suggest to the carnival committee that they should proceed with their plans and obtain the necessary licenses and road closures on the assumption that permission would be given. (There is no cost in applying for a road closure). With 12 weeks still to go before the event it should have been possible to obtain the relevant licenses.

The Carnival is a fantastic community event and it is such a pity that the event will be missing from the calendar this year.”

    Come on Raunds Town Council help deliver the carnival…..more than happy to pay taxes towards community events vs planning committees

      Andy, the Council have offered to provide the Field free of charge, which is all it’s been asked to do. Have offered any other help needed.

      Lee, I’m sure the councils genorocity in providing the field has been welcomed… I would have thought the council would have been at the forefront of the carnival and leading the entire event based on the amount of local support it gets…I would say that this is an annual raunds event which should not be dropped

      Andy, great idea but the Carnival is a privately organized event, so the Council have VERY limited input. We’d love to help more. I’m sure the Carnival Committee will come back bigger and better next year, and I hope the Council can assist. In the meantime the Council will are working very hard on the Mayors Show this weekend, and planning the annual picnic in July and the Christmas Lights event.
