Raunds 2017 Carnival and Town Show Cancelled

Raunds Town Carnival has announced that this years Carnival and Town Show will no longer be going ahead.

“It is with great regret and due to time constraints that have uniquely been imposed this year by the Town Council procedures; the Raunds carnival and Town Show steering group have had to cancel this years event.

The event was moved to July to accommodate all of the community after some consultation last year, but it seems that we have met opposition at every turn.

We apologise to the community and thank them for their patience.

We would also like to thank all the local businesses that offered their support.

WE WILL RETURN NEXT YEAR!!

Thank you.”

And the adults. Couldn’t they have waved the new rules this year if its only just come in force. Grossly unfair and a disgrace I think. The town council should be up in arms about it! Rules are not set in stone in some cases. They never bother them when they pass a development against the populations decision!

I agree , they certainly didn’t mess up with the mayors show or that music festival, can’t believe they screwed up with something that is the highlight of our locals, they are happy to sell our town to the Warth Park developers and ignore the townsfolk.

Val Yates, Garry Watts, the Council didn’t ‘screw up’ anything. They were asked if Amos Lawrence field could be used as the other venue owners had dropped out, and the Council said not only can you use it, it would be provided free of charge.

No offence meant Lee Wilkes but it’s such an exciting event for the kiddies , the scouts brownies etc etc , all the work that stallholders have put in making their goods, surely something could still be done to reschedule for a later date. It’s a big community event.

Val, absolutely no offence taken. I know, it’s such a shame they’ve decided to cancel, I do hope they reconsider once they realise how much support they have from the public and the Council.

Having said that Val, I know how much hard work goes into organising these Events. At the Council we get a lot of volunteers (including the Councillors) plus the people who work in the office who spend a considerable amount of time planning and organising the Mayor’s Show, Annual Picnic, and Christmas Lights events. We plan a year in advance as there is so much to do. I don’t know who the people are who organise the Parade, but presumably they have to fit it around their jobs, so if they feel they haven’t got enough time to organise one this year, I would understand why.

Why did you have the Mayor’s Show on the same weekend as Raunds music fest, totally killed the event held inside the cricket club sunday afternoon such a shame.

Lee Wilkes wasn’t the other venue Warth park? I seem to remember a posting on Raunds Town Voice saying that because I commented that I thought staying at Amos Lawrence would be better. If so Warth park has dropped them then? Strange that, get their planning permission now don’t want to host a community event.!!!!!!!

Lyn, my understanding was that the Football Club and then Warth Park were the preferred venues.
